Chiefs Asked To Help Raise Awareness on NRC Registration

By Fred Mukelebai -Government has continued calling on chiefs to help sensitise their subjects on the importance of obtaining National Registration Cards -NRCs- under the mobile issuance exercise.

Tourism and Arts Minister Ronald Chitotela has so far engaged senior Chief Mwata Kazembe in Mwansabombwe and Chiefs Mushota and Chama of Kawambwa district.

Mr. Chitotela who was at chief Chama’s palace informed the traditional leader that government has waived the need for a police report for those who have lost NRCs in order to make it easy for citizens to obtain the document.

He said the exercise will run for only 40 days in Luapula and four other provinces from the time it was launched on 1st August 2020.

And Chief Chama assured Mr. Chitotela that he will get involved in sensitising his people over the importance of acquiring NRCs.

Meanwhile, Chief Chama has appealed to government to ensure the custodians of land benefit from the investment that has been set up in his chiefdom.

He said failure to do this will result in Chiefs refusing to release land to investors in future.

This comes in the wake of a misunderstanding between Chief Chama and Green 2000 over the payment of royalties for the investment set up in his chiefdom.

And Mr. Chitotela assured the chief that government will engage all stakeholders to ensure a win-win situation for all parties.

He also said Green 2000 has been engaged to work on the road leading to Chief Chama ‘s palace.
