CHIEF JUSTICE TO INTRODUCE APPRAISALS

By Hannock Kasama

Chief Justice MUMBA MALILA says he will introduce a performance appraisal system among adjudicators as part of the reforms to ensure speed delivery of justice.

Justice MALILA says the measure will also enable underperforming adjudicators to be effectively accountable to their supervisors.

He has since implored adjudicators to stick to timely delivery of justice to reduce the backlog of cases in the judiciary.

Justice MALILA says timely delivery of justice is a constitutional requirement and key to upholding human rights.

He has also called on adjudicators to operate independently and justly for the judiciary to earn a positive image.

On the other hand Justice MALILA says all the disciplinary cases against adjudicators must be expedited.

He says this will afford chance to those cited to exculpate themselves.

Meanwhile Justice MALILA has praised Deputy Chief Justice MICHAEL MUSONDA for anchoring the judiciary following the death of Chief Justice IRENE MAMBILIMA.

He has also praised late Justice MAMBILIMA as an epitome of gender excellence in the legal fraternity.

This is contained in Justice MALILA Virtual Inaugural Address to the Adjudicators and auxiliary members of staff in the judiciary.

The Inaugural Address has been released to ZNBC News in Lusaka today.

Chief Justice MUMBA MALILA was sworn in by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA yesterday after the National Assembly ratificatfied his appointment.
