Chess National team trials attracts 200 players

Over 200 Chess players will take part in the 2024 National team trials ahead of the African Youth Championships.

They will fight for 12 slots available for the national team’s participation at the African Youth Championships slated for South Africa in June.

The Chess Federation of Zambia -CFZ- President LESLIE CHIKUSE says the trials will start next month as players from both Government and Private schools will battle for places in the National Team.

CHIKUSE says once selected the 12 will also represent the country at the African Junior Championships to held in Cairo Egypt in June 2024.

He told ZNBC Sports News in an interview that the trials are held to ensure that only the best players are picked in all age categories.
