Candidates file nominations for Mongu Mayoral by election

Justin Akakulubelwa-Three candidates have successfully filed in their nomination papers for the Mongu Mayoral by-election slated for April 14, 2022.

Patriotic Front candidate, FRANCIS MUNDIA, was the first one to file his nomination papers around 12 hours, after the Socialist party pulled out of the race.

The PF candidate was followed by the Party of National Unity and Progress -PNUP- candidate KAMUTI KAMWENGO, who at first attempt failed to file in because he had not yet withdrawn his money to pay the nomination fee.

As a result, the United Party for National Development -UPND- candidate NYAMBE MUYUMBANA bacame the second to file in his nomination papers.

Later, the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- officials allowed the PNUP to file in after the UPND because it’s candidate and supporters were already in the vicinity of the nomination centre before the closing time of the nominations.

The trio has assured the residents and voters in Mongu of infrastructure development once voted into office.

Meanwhile, Socialist Party Advisor to the President – Political, PRESTON CHINYAMA, says the party in the district decided to pull out of the Mongu Mayoral race based on guidance from the party’s head office.

The mayoral by-election in Mongu has been necessitated by the death of UPND Mayor, NYAMBE MATAKALA, in a road accident on February 24, 2022.
