CAF CC: Zanaco in Al Merreikh challenge

Zambia’s remaining represantatives in the CAF Champions League, Sensational ZANACO will face Sudanese outfit, Al-Merreikh in the second preliminary round.

Al Merreikh advanced to the next round after a 1-nil home victory over Express FC of Uganda at Shikan Castle Stadium in Obeid, Sudan. The CECAFA Kagame Champions advanced on away goals rule after a 2-2 aggregate.

Head coach Kelvin Kaindu is aware of the threat posed by Al Merreikh and the pedigree they have on the African Continent.

“I think if you saw the way the draws were done we anticipated that they would be our next opponents and it has come out like that,” Kaindu told the ZamFoot Crew.

“They have the pedigree and the experience, They have been participating in this competition for some time. We have seen their dominance in the past, for us, it’s a good draw, and it will give us a good experience to go and play them.

” The weather is different, hence we need to research about that and see how we can structure our training sessions. The friendly game with YANGA and playing in Equatorial Guinea will help us a lot. All in all, they are a good team and have a good reputation in Africa.”

“What we need is to get an advantage away, We not relying much on home and away but what could be the difference is the weather, it’s quite hot in Sudan,” he added.

The First Leg of the second preliminary round will take place between 15-17 October and the second leg between 22-24 October 2021.
