Cabinet approves several Bills

Cabinet has approved a statutory instrument to allow TurboKachin Consortium Limited, the concessionaire on the Chingola-Kasumbalesa road, to operate and collect toll fees at Konkola Toll Plaza in Chililabombwe.

At its sitting on November 13, 2023, Cabinet resolved that the company collects tolls for the road which was built by the firm under the Public Private Partnership-PPP.

Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA says Cabinet made the decision in line with Section 14 of the Tolls Act of 2011 which allows for a Private Party to be given the authority to operate and maintain any toll road under a concession agreement.

And Mr. MWEETWA, who is also Information and Media Minister, says Cabinet has approved several Bills for publication which seek to amend several laws.

He has named some of the Bills as the Value Added Tax Amendment Bill, the Income Tax Amendment Bill, the Value Added Tax Amendment Bill, the Customs and Excise Amendment Bill and the Zambia Revenue Authority Amendment Bill.

Mr. MWEETWA has disclosed that Cabinet has approved the ratification of the African Telecommunications Union Convention.

He says at its sitting, Cabinet also approved the granting of diplomatic status to the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre.

Mr. MWEETWA says Cabinet also approved the Integrated Resource Plan for the Electricity Sub-sector as a blueprint to guide future development of using both on-grid and off-grid technologies.

Meanwhile, Cabinet has also approved the appointment of boards for the Public Service Microfinance Company Board of Directors, the National Savings and Credit Bank Board of Directors and the hosting of the 11th African Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities -AFTRA Conference and the 13th Roundtable to be held in Lusaka from May 21st to 24th, 2024.
