Cabinet approves African Medicines Agency treaty

Brian Mwale-Cabinet has approved Zambia’s accession to the Treaty on the establishment of the African Medicines Agency -AMA-.

Chief Government Spokesperson CHUSHI KASANDA says the move is aimed at having strong national regulatory systems, with technical backup at regional and continental levels.

Ms. KASANDA says government’s interest in ratifying the AMA Treaty is for the purposes of fostering cooperation and coordination in the fields of health within the AU Members.

And Ms. KASANDA says Cabinet has also approved Zambia’s accession to the Convention of the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community.

She says this is also meant to foster and promote regional cooperation in health among Member States.

Ms. KASANDA who is also Information and Media Minister says a Cabinet meeting held yesterday also approved in principle the introduction of seven Bills in Parliament during the next sitting.

She says the bills include the Animal Identification and Traceability Bill, the ionizing radiation protection bill, the Science and Technology bill, and the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes bills.

The Chief Government spokesperson says other bills planned for introduction in the next sitting are the Start-Up bill, the Judicial Training Center of Zambia Bill and the National Youth Development Council Bill.

In a statement to ZNBC News in Lusaka, Ms. KASANDA has also revealed that Cabinet also approved a nine member Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority -ZICTA- Board.
