Bazo returns as Chambeshi names local squad for World Cup qualifiers

Nkana forward Alex Ng’onga has returned to the national team set up after an absence of close to four years.

Ng’onga who last appeared for the Copper Bullets back in January 2018 during the 2018 African Nations Championship held in Morocco is part of the 20-member local squad summoned by Coach Beston Chambeshi to kickstart preparations for the November 13 Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Mauritania and Tunisia four days later.

Chambeshi has also handed Nkwazi goalminder Charles Muntanga a call-up together with Green Buffaloes defender Jack Ngulube. NAPSA Stars defender Luka Banda has also been recalled to the national team set up.

The regulars in Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba, Moses Phiri, Dominic Chanda, Dickson Chapa, and Gregory Sanjase have all made the cut.

Super League top goalscorer Friday Samu and Kabwe Warriors midfielder Prince Mumba who was involved in the two goals scored in Mauritania has all been left out of the team.

Foreign-based players will be expected to join in the final stanza of preparation for the Mauritania and Tunisia clashes.

Zambia will host Mauritania at National Heroes Stadium on November 13 before facing Tunisia three days later in Tunis to conclude the Group B qualifiers that will see the table-toppers qualifying to the final round.
