Barotse Activist arrested for violating bail

Nyambe Nasilele has been arrested for failing to appear before the Kaoma court at scheduled court hearings in the case of seditious practices in which he is jointly charged with Muleta Kalaluka.

On the 28th of June 2016, a bench warrant was slapped on him for failing to appear before the court resulting in the adjournment of the matter to the 12th of July 2016. However, when he did not turn up again on the 12th of July, the court revoked his bail.

Upon his arrest yesterday (Sunday) morning, Nyambe Nasilele was taken to some location yet to be disclosed.

All this is in the continued prosecution and persecution of the Barotse people accused of promoting the independence of Barotseland or those found with Barotse literature and articles deemed seditious by the Zambian state agents.

The arrests are largely meant to quell and suppress the growing calls for the peaceful withdrawal of Zambia’s Lusaka administration from the contested territory of Barotseland.
