Autistism should not be a hinderance-Nalumango

Mary Kachepa-Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO says government is promoting inclusive education and development.

Mrs. NALUMANGO says government wants to see people with autism in mainstream schools so that they are able to compete with others and be treated equally.

She says government recognizes the challenges that people with autism and their parents go through.

Mrs. NALUMANGO has urged fathers with autistic children to support their wives in raising the children.

She has also urged people with autism and other stakeholders to make recommendations to government on how best issues of autism can be addressed.

In a speech read on her behalf by Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA during the launch of the National Autism Association of Zambia in Lusaka, Mrs. NALUMANGO said government is pleased with programmes aimed at improving the lives of persons with
utism.

Mrs. NALUMANGO said government is committed to improving the lives of people with autism.

Meanwhile National Autism Association of Zambia Chairperson ANGELA GONDWE appealed for the construction of Autistic schools and training of special school teachers who will understand the children so that some parents stop leaving children in their homes.

And Autism Awareness Ambassador ROMAKALA MWANZA, who is autistic and now a lawyer said it hasn’t been easy to live with autism because of mockery and rejection.
