ARREST ALL PERPETRATORS OF VIOLENCE-MWIIMBU

By Patricia Banda:

Home Affairs and internal security Minister Jack Mwimbu has directed the Zambia Police to ensure they bring to book all perpetrators of violence regardless of their political affiliation.

Mr. Mwiimbu has also directed the police to engage all stakeholders on the importance of peace and security.

The Minister has since urged the public to report any groupings that are attacking people to the police.

Mr. Mwiimbu was speaking in the National Assembly in a Ministerial Statement on incidents of violence across the country.

This was in response to PF Shiwangàndu Member of Parliament Steven Kampyongo who recently raised a point of order on the  alleged UPND cadres who are  harassing PF cadres.

Mr. Mwiimbu reiterated that Government will not condone political cadres taking the law into their own hands and has assured the police that they will be protected from cadres as long as they do their work.

He disclosed that some political cadres have been arrested but that there is no evidence to show that they are UPND members.

Mr. Mwiimbu was responding to UPND nominated Member of Parliament Likando Kalaluka who wanted to know if those involved were UPND cadres.

And Mr. Mwiimbu has defended a statement made by UPND Lusaka Province Chairperson Obvious Mwaliteta on the issue of creating branches in markets and bus stations stating that he never said he will be collecting revenue.

He pointed out that the council will still be collecting revenue.

This was in response to PF Kantanshi Member of Parliament Anthony Mumba who wanted clarifications on Mr. Mwaliteta’ statement.
