Anthrax Outbreak: Mass vaccination of livestock begins

Livestock and Fisheries authorities in the Eastern province have started a mass vaccination exercise of livestock, in 5 high risk districts, in order to prevent Anthrax.
Provincial Veterinary Officer, ARTHUR MUMBOLOMENA says, apart from Lumezi, other districts earmarked for the exercise are Lundazi, Mambwe, Chama and Chasefu.
Dr MUMBOLOMENA says although the province has not recorded any anthrax case among domestic animals, the department is doing everything possible to prevent an outbreak.
He says his office has only received 15-thousand doses of the Anthrax vaccine for Lumezi district but more vaccines are expected.
Dr MUMBOLOMENA has appealed to livestock farmers to present their animals for vaccination, when the drug is available.
