“Amplify linkage between Climate Change and Health”

By MacPherson Mukuka

An International Non-Governmental Organization championing the provision of primary health care systems in Africa has called on Government and stakeholders to amplify the linkage between Climate Change and Health.

AMREF Africa Country Manager VIVIANE SAKANGA says this is because Climate Change has a direct impact on the health of the people.

Speaking to ZNBC News in an interview, Mrs. SAKANGA said one of health implications Climate Change has is it’s impact on nutrition as it affects agriculture productivity and production.

She said the prevailing drought situation is likely to lead to an increase in nutritional health related conditions due to poor nutrition intake.

Mrs. SAKANGA said AMREF is working with the Ministry of health to ensure a robust approach to the impact of climate change on the health of the people.

Meanwhile, CSO – Sun Alliance Country Coordinator DANIEL KALALA said there is need to build resilience by investing in long term strategies and food systems to combat nutrition challenges arising from causes such as Climate Change.
