AGRICULTURAL UNION’S URGED TO UNITE – KATAMBO

(NAIS) Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo has called on agricultural labour unions to uphold unity of purpose in addressing the challenges faced in the sector.

Mr. Katambo says government and the unions share a common objective, which is to improve the conditions of service for employees.

Officiating at the fifth Quadrennial Conference for the Agricultural Technical and Professional Staff Union of Zambia -ATPSUZ- in Livingstone, Mr. Katambo advised the incoming executive to continue ensuring effective dialogue with government in improving the welfare of officers.

Mr. Katambo further called for support and partnership of stakeholders in a bid to transform the agricultural sector and make it a key driver of the economy.

He said government’s goal is to enhance agricultural production by increasing productivity and diversifying from maize to other crops.

Mr. Katambo said government acknowledges and appreciates the role of the labour unions and their members in disseminating and implementing agricultural policies.

And Union Acting President James Fungaloko said the union will remain professional and non-partisan in advocating for improved conditions of service for employees.
