Agric firm to invest $120m in poultry project

Moombe Hamobola-A farming company, Heartlands Commercial Hub and its partners intend to invest $120m in poultry production in Zambia within the next five years.

The company, which has already invested over $15m in Kazungula District of Southern Province in the last two years, specializes in egg production.

Heartlands also has hatcheries, produces chicken feed, dressed chickens and cooking oil.

And Fisheries and Livestock Permanent Secretary ANNA SONGOLO has praised Heartlands for investing in Zambia.

Dr. SONGOLO was speaking in Kazungula when she represented Fisheries Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE at an event dubbed “Heartlands Arise Vision Day.”

She said government is committed to providing a sustained enabling environment to support initiatives such as poultry production to transform the agriculture sector.

At the same event Hamara and Heartlands Group Chief Executive Officer PETER CUNNINGHAM said for Africa and Zambia in particular to move out of poverty, and create jobs, the local people must learn to use their talents to improve their lives.

Mr. CUNNINGHAM said Africa has five times more resources than any other continent and should be leading in development.

He said Africans must stop telling themselves that better life is in the western world because the continent has enough resources which the people can use to develop.
