AG SETS UP HOTLINE

A toll free hotline has been set up for the office of the Auditor General to enable the public report issues regarding management of public resources.

Launching the hotline in Lusaka today, Auditor General DICK SICHEMBE said the toll-free line will enable whistle-blowers report financial irregularities in a timely and convenient manner.

Dr. SICHEMBE added the toll-free line will further enhance audit reporting and promote transparency and accountability.

He stressed that the identity of the caller and the information that will be obtained will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Dr. SICHEMBE encouraged citizens to participate in the effort of promoting prudent management of public resources.

And Embassy of Sweden Head of Development Cooperation SUSANNA HUGHES said fighting corruption as a developmental obstacle is high on the Swedish International Development Cooperation agenda.

Ms. HUGHES said transparent and accountable management of resources and integrity in public life is fundamental to economic growth in Zambia.

Meanwhile, Public Accounts Committee Chairperson WARREN MWAMBAZI welcomed the launch of the toll free hotline noting that the development will ensure increased levels of accountability in the management of public resources.

The toll free line number is 5-5-6-6 and is active on two mobile networks, ZAMTEL and MTN.
