AFRICOM to open office in Zambia

Ruth Chayinda-The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) says it will open an Office of Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Zambia in an effort to build on the foundation of the US Zambia shared security interests.

AFRICOM Deputy Director for Strategy, Engagement, and Programs Brigadier General PETER BAILEY says the new Office of Security Cooperation will enhance military to military relations and expand areas of cooperation.

General BAILEY said this during a meeting with President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.

General BAILEY also praised President HICHILEMA and his Administration for its steadfast commitment to regional peace and stability.

He said the United States Government looks forward to building on its strong bilateral ties with Zambia to enhance security cooperation.

General BAILEY also praised the Zambian Defence Force for its professionalism and contributions to United Nations peacekeeping missions.

He is also expected to meet with Defense Minister, AMBROSE LUFUMA , and will represent AFRICOM at the official opening ceremony for the start of pre-deployment training for the eighth Zambia Battalion (ZAMBATT VIII).
