African Youth Chess Tournament Hangs in Balance

The Chess Federation of Zambia -CFZ says it has a shortfall of K10,000 from the initial K40,000 budgeted to cater for logistics for the African Youth chess tournament slated for 14th to 22nd December 2019 in Namibia.CFZ president Mukubulo Chilufya says the 30 thousand raised so far has largely come from parents hence his appeal to companies and individuals to help in sending the young chess players for the tournament.Chilufya was speaking in a telephone interview with ZNBC sports in Lusaka today.He is hopeful that the deficit will be met before the start of the tournament.Chilufya said the 15 participants in the age groups of 10 to 18 respectively are ready and hopeful that they will bring back glory to Zambia.Meanwhile, Chilufya disclosed that Thambuzai, who is participating at the FIDE confederation of the disabled chess tournament slated for December 8th to 14th 2019 in Turkey, is scheduled to travel for the tournament tomorrow.
