African countries urged to invest in Research and Development

Higher Education Authority Director General, Stephen Simukanga says investment in research and development has a positive impact on social and economic development of any nation.Professor Simukanga says it is sad that many African countries are failing to meet the target of investing One percent of their Gross Domestic Product-GDP- in Research and development.Professor Simukanga, who is also chairperson of Natural Science Commission of UNESCO has called for more investment in the sector if the continent is to realize its aspirations in the vision 2063.He was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on Zambia Embassy Charge d’Affaires, in Ethiopia John Chisanga.Professor Simukanga is in Addis Ababa to attend the 3rd Ordinary session for the Specialized Technical Committee on Education, Science and Technology.This is contained in a statement made available to ZNBC News by First Secretary Press and Tourism at the Zambian mission in Ethiopia Inutu Mwanza.
