$54m Spent On Cashew Nut Production Revamp

January 21, 2020January 21, 20202President Edgar Lungu says Government has spent 55.4 million U.S Dollars to revamp Cashew Nut production in Western Province.And President Lungu has challenged the people of Western province to venture into cashew nut farming because it will transform the lives of people.The President says the country only has 1 point 7 million trees of cashew nut despite it being a high value crop.He said under the Cashew nut development Project government plans to plant 6 million trees of cashew.President Lungu said people of western province have relied so much on maize saying it is time people switched to cashew nut farming.The President has also thanked Tanzanian President John Magufuli for donating 25 metric tonnes of cashew seedling to Zambia.The Head of State said this during at the Cashew planting exercise at Simulumbe Research station in Mongu District.And Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo said the future of Cashew Nut farming in western province is bright.And the Ngambela Mukela Manyando thanked President Lungu for his efforts to revamp cashew nut industry in the province.The Ngambela said attempts to revamp cashew industry in the past failed but that President Lungu has worked hard to ensure the industry is revamped.
