350 SCHOOL CHILDREN DIE IN ROAD CARNAGE

Over 3-hundred and 50 school going learners die while others are seriously injured in road accidents enroute to various schools across the country annually.

Zambia Road safety Trust Chairperson DANIEL MWAMBA says most pupils who are mainly pedestrians’ lose lives through road crashes.

He says according to the 2021 report, about ten percent of children under the age of 15 are vulnerable to road fatal accidents.

Mr. MWAMBA was speaking at Chimwemwe Secondary school in Kitwe during the launch of the Zambia Road Safety Trust, which has rolled out projects in various schools to help reduce child road injuries and death.

And Kitwe Mayor MPASA MWAYA who graced the event  appealed for more such projects in various schools in the district.

Meanwhile, CHIMWEMWE Member of Parliament ALLEN BANDA said he is happy that the project has been implemented in his constituency adding that it will play a crucial role in helping reduce road accidents among school going children.

And, Kitwe District Education Board Secretary Representative CATHERINE SIMUNYOLA said authorities in the district are setting up speed humps at main entrances to schools.
