15,000 Cattle To Be Vaccinated For FMD

About 15,000 cattle are targeted for vaccination against the Foot and Mouth disease in Northern province, starting March, this year.Acting Provincial Fisheries and Livestock Coordinator Ramans Kayumu says the first round of the vaccination exercise, which is part of the national wide campaign against Foot and Mouth Disease, will target high risk areas of the province.Mr. Kayumu says the national wide livestock vaccination campaign aims to boost immune system of cattle as well as combat the foot and mouth disease.He has told NAIS in an interview that the ministry has also tightened surveillance and restricted the movement of cattle within the province as a preventive measure.Meanwhile, Mr. Kayumu has disclosed that government through the ministry of livestock is conducting training for farmers aimed at equipping them with knowledge on the control of animal diseases.The vaccination of cattle against foot and mouth disease is in line with the Animal Health Act number 27 of 2010 and Statutory Instrument number 24 of 2014 on compulsory vaccination of animals.
