ZRA SLOWS DOWN SMUGGLING

By Lazarous Sichula

The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has recorded over 50 percent reduction in cases of smuggling of goods into the country.

ZRA corporate communications manager TOPSY SIKALINDA says the decline in cases of smuggling is from 3,426 recorded last year to only 1,038 recorded this year.

Mr. SIKALINDA says with the use of technologies such as CCTV cameras and drones, ZRA expects cases of smuggling to continue being low.

He has disclosed that besides using the said installed technologies, the Authority has also deployed enforcement teams in all parts of the Country.

Mr. SIKALINDA says the Authority is aware of some trucks that are parked outside the Country’s borders with the futile thought that enforcement teams will withdraw.

He was speaking to journalists at the ZRA Makeni enforcement yard in Lusaka where he gave details of weekend’s interception of two trucks carrying smuggled new shoes and second hand clothes and shoes.
