ZRA GETS SMART

The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has interfaced the customs system known as Asycudaworld with the Domestic Taxes system also known as tax online.

Corporate Communications Manager TOPSY SIKALINDA says the development is a game changer in the administration of VAT returns, audits, and refund mechanisms because it will allow for auto-population of import VAT claims with the data on ASYCUDAWorld.

Mr. SIKALINDA says Taxpayers will now only be required to input the date of entry, the entry number and the port of entry.

He said this in a statement to ZNBC news in Lusaka.

Mr. SIKALINDA said the figures will then be auto-populated on return thereby ensuring that taxpayers only claim import VAT based on the data on ASYCUDAWorld and avert the possibilities of false and double claims.

He said the system now validates all data automatically with zero human intervention and eliminates issues of fraudulent claims that are not fully processed on the Asycuda customs systems.

Mr SIKALINDA said the interfaces will allow the automation and mainstreaming of tax administration and improving the approach towards a more seamless system.

He further said the Authority is also set to interface Smart Zambia – Government Service Bus, thereby creating a new perspective in tax administration with stakeholders like PACRA for company registrations and transfer of shares, RTSA on motor vehicle regis
rations and Ministry of lands on property transfer taxes.

The ZRA Corporate Communications Manager said these actions will seal all loopholes related to tax fraud.

Mr SIKALINDA also revealed that the authority is in the process of introducing another programme for all the local councils on rental income tax as data will soon be harvested from the lands register, council evaluation roll, ZESCO and the Water Utilities among others.
