ZRA COMMISSIONER GENERAL EXTENDS TPIN REGISTRATION AFTER STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATIONS.

Following the consultations with stakeholders that include the Bankers Association of Zambia, The Commissioner General of the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) Mr. Kingsley Chanda has extended the Tax Payer Identification Number (TPIN) registration deadline from 30th June, 2018 to 31st December, 2018.

He has further clarified that the objective of the TPIN registration is to ensure that there is an inclusive and comprehensive tax register in the country. The TPIN requirement is not only peculiar to Zambia but a global practice.

The law requires that a TPIN is used when making vital transactions with;

  • ZRA – For imports and Exports
  • Ministry of lands – Property registrations and Transfers
  • Road Traffic and Safety Agency (RTSA) – Motor Vehicle Registration & Change of Ownership
  • ZESCO – New applications for power connection
  • All Banks and Financial institutions – Opening or Maintaining an account

To this effect, the Commissioner General has emphasized that ZRA will also engage with the other institutions on the enhanced enforcement of TPIN requirement as stipulated by the Law.

Members of the public are therefore encouraged to use the simplified online registration process which is quick and convenient.

All those that obtained TPINs must ensure they deliver them to their respective banks as soon as possible.
