ZRA ‘closes’ Post Newspapers

Post NewspaperThe Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) has shut down operations at The Post Newpapers for alleged non-payment of tax arrears.

ZRA officers stormed Post Newspapers Offices on Lusaka’s Bwinjimfumu Road at around 17:00 hours and blocked journalists and other workers from accessing the premises.

And the officers have also switched off The Post‘s Printing press in the light industrial area, seized unspecified amount of property and sealed off the premises, thereby grounding the newspaper’s operations to a halt. All employees were asked to leave the newspaper’s premises.

But when asked to comment on deliberations with ZRA officials, Post Newspapers Editor-in-Chief Fred Mmembe told journalists to ask President Edgar Lungu, saying he the is head of state and in-charge of the revenue body.

But ZRA officials declined to comment referring all queries to the head office.

Zambian Eye understands that the ZRA officials were served with an injunction but carried out the raid anyway.

This is the second time in nine months that The Post is being raid by ZRA over alleged failure to settle tax arrears.

The newspaper has been highly critical of President Edgar Lungu’s leadership.
