ZNUT to empower teachers with land from councils

Hector Simfukwe-The Zambia National Teachers Union -ZNUT- says it plans to engage councils across the country so that they can give land to teachers on flexible conditions.

ZNUT General Secretary NEWMAN BUBALA says the program is aimed at empowering teachers with land for farming and construction of houses.

Mr. BUBALA says the Union is already implementing a similar program in Lusaka and that it will work with government and other stakeholders to ensure that more teachers have land.

He told ZNBC News that this program will not only address the problem of accommodation in the teaching service but also allow teachers to be land owners.

Mr. BUBALA said his union will not hesitate to implement programs that are aimed at uplifting the lives of its members.
