ZNFU Demands full cost recovery price for Maize

Etambuyu Katota-The Zambia National Farmers Union – ZNFU- has asked the Food Reserve Agency – FRA to give farmers a full cost recovery price as the Agency announces the maize buying price in the next two weeks.

ZNFU Media and Public Relations Manager CALVIN KALEYI says factors such as the cost of fertilizer, chemicals and seed among others must be considered as the price is being looked into.

Mr. KALEYI has appealed to FRA to assist farmers make a profit by giving them a cost reflective price for them to effectively continue contribute to the country’s food basket.

He said this in a telephone interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.

And, Grain Traders Association of Zambia Spokesperson YOTAM MKANDAWIRE said the association wants to see a price that will favour farmers.

Mr. MKANDAWIRE said a good price will support the business of farming as it is an expensive venture.

Vice President MUTALE NALUMANGO during the Vice President’s question time in Parliament yesterday said the FRA will in the next two weeks announce its maize buying price.
