ZNBC STUDIOS DISAPPOINTS KASANDA

By Justine Akakulubelwa:

Information and Media Minister Chushi Kasanda is disappointed that the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation -ZNBC- television studio in Livingstone is non-operational.

Ms. Kasanda, who visited the ZNBC Livingstone offices today, took to task the Senior Maintenance Engineer, Patrick Nkula, to explain what had happened to the studio.

In response, Mr. Nkula informed the Minister that the decision to close the studio was solely taken by management in Lusaka.

The Minister has promised to intervene and ensure the studio equipment which was ripped off from the studio is brought back as long as staff in Livingstone promise to sustain operations.

Meanwhile, Ms. Kasanda who also toured the Zambia News and Information Services -ZANIS offices in Livingstone has assured staff that her ministry will work towards easing operational challenges the institution is facing.

She said the Ministry of Information and Media has a supplementary budget of about 5-Million Kwacha to be used to procure equipment for ZANIS.

The Minister made the assurance after ZANIS Livingstone District Information Officer, Lemmy Likando, bemoaned the lack of equipment and a utility vehicle.

Earlier the minister paid a courtesy call on Livingstone District Commissioner, Eunice Nawa, who bemoaned poor salaries for journalists in some private media houses.

Mrs. Nawa informed the minister that workers at one of the media houses in the Tourist Capital have gone for five months without salaries.
