ZICTA seeks affordable ICT services

The Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has pledged its commitment to ensuring that ICT services are affordable and accessible across the country.

And the authority says it is in the process of coming up with regulations that will compel service providers to offer affordable and cost reflective tariffs.

Speaking during the USAID digital development forum in Lusaka today, ZICTA acting director general Patrick Mutimushi says government is in the process of coming up with a national broadband strategy aimed at enhancing access and usage of internet services around the country.

Mr. Mutimushi adds that the authority is coming with various initiatives aimed at making ICT devices affordable and accessible especially to the rural communities.

He has further stated that the authority is scaling up initiatives that will enhance capacity in the quality of internet services made valuable to the people by various service providers.

And USAID Zambia acting deputy mission director Zdenek Suda has called for an open development approach in addressing developmental challenges to ICT accessibility around the country.
