ZICTA pulls over 2m sim cards

Malita Banda-The Zambia Information Communications Technology Authority – ZICTA has de-activated about 2.1m non-complaint Sim-cards from February, 7th to March 7th 2022 .

ZICTA Manager Consumer Protection and Compliance EDGAR MLAUZI says these numbers were found to have been registered to more than 10 subscribers, which is against the law.

He says since the deactivation of the sim-cards the Authority has noted a reduction of scam messages among members of the general public.

The Authority has also noted with concern the increase in the sell of already registered sim-cards.

And During an undercover operation ZICTA managed to spot a number of agents that have continued to sell already registered Sim- Cards.

Acting Director Consumer Protection and Compliance Inform Technology GARRY MUKELABAI said the culprits will be dealt with in due course.
