ZESCO WINS INAUGURAL ABSA CUP

June 22, 2019June 22, 20194Zesco United Football club has lifted the inaugural ABSA cup after thrashing ZANACO Football club by four goals to one, walking away with a whooping five hundred thousand kwacha and a trophy.Zesco’s intentions to win the sixth trophy that has changed its name to ABSA from Barclays cup was made clear after the top scorer and player of the tournament Jackson Jesse Were opened the flood gates in the 12th minute.In the 31st minute, veteran striker Winston Kalengo took advantage of a ten-man ZANACO after Kelvin Kapumbu was red carded in the 15th minute to make it two nil to ZESCO United.After half time ZANACO who were flat in the first half showed signs of improvements on the pitch and that paid off as Enerst Mbewe pulled one back.However, Zesco came back in the game and it was not late that John Ching’andu scored the third in the 62nd minute for the electricity boys.And Kaizer Chiefs bound striker and man of the match Lazarous Kambole put the ice on the cake with a top roof cracker that left the bankers’ goalminder TOASTER NSABATA ball watching.The match was watched by the Republican President, who is also FAZ patron and some ministers among other delegates.Meanwhile, President Edgar Lungu is worried by the poor attendance at live Football matches.President LUNGU says he has noted that the public is no longer attending live football matches and is worried that the Country might lose its status as a footballing nation.The Head of State has directed the Football Association of Zambia- FAZ to probe what is causing the poor attendance at football games.The President returned to Lusaka after the game.
