ZESCO opens an eight-point lead…As Green Buffaloes edge Power Dynamos

ZESCO United has opened an eight-point lead at the summit following a narrow 1-0 win over not-so-Elite Lusaka Dynamos.

Log leaders ZESCO United came into this afternoons’ match looking to extend their lead at the summit to eight points after Sensational ZANACO suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat at the hands of relegated Kitwe United.

The hosts, Lusaka Dynamos started strong controlling the midfield and could have taken the lead but Emmanuel Chabula failed to beat Ian Otieno in a one v one situation after a brilliant ball from Marvin Jere found him in acres of space.

Numba Mumamba then decided to make his familiar first-half substitution as he introduced, Zega Mambo’s all-time leading goal scorer Jesse Jackson Were for youngster Kasoma Luwawa.

The Kenyan only needed seven minutes to make a mark as he headed home a Simon Silwimba pinpoint cross from close range to put ZESCO in the lead after an impressive 14 straight ZESCO United passes with Kelvin Mubanga Kampamba at the centre of that activity.

The goal proved enough as Lusaka Dynamos failed to come back , 1-0 the match ended, Numba Mumamba getting the better of his mentor Wedson Nyirenda and avenging the ABSA Cup final loss his team suffered at the hands of Nyirenda’s team.

Earlier on at the same venue, Green Buffaloes edged Powerless Power Dynamos 2-1 to hand them their fifth defeat in their last ten matches.

David Sakala headed the hosts in the lead barely after six minutes before Benson Sakala leveled matters in the 63rd minute but Buffaloes were back in the lead ten minutes later, Friday Samu with his 14th league goal of the season.

The win takes the Zambia Army-sponsored outfit to 9th place while Power Dynamos drop to tenth place and just five points away from the dreaded relegation zone.
