ZESCO CUTS CONNECTION BACKLOG

Zesco says less that 20,000 people are currently on the waiting list for electricity connection.

Managing Director VICTOR MAPANI says the power utility company says this is signifcant reduction considering that previously the number people on the waiting list was 67,000.

Mr. MAPANI says the backlog dates as far back as 2014.

He says the company sourced for funds to enable it erect poles but was delayed by the lack of poles from ZAFFICO and CFC.

Mr. MAPANI said this during a special meeting for heads of quasi government institutions and statutory bodies.

And speaking at the same event Zambia Institute for Policy Analysis and Research -ZIPAR -Executive Director HERRICK MPUKU recommended a separation of political office bearers and Statutory bodies so that they are able to make independent decisions.

And Institute of Directors representative NGOSA CHISUPA said there is need for statutory and quasi government institutions to be prudent in the use of resources and the curtailing of luxurious expenditure.
