Zanaco officially unveil their Nigerian consultant Amunike

Zambia Super League side, Sensational Zanaco has officially unveiled Nigeria Super Eagles Legend Emmanuel Amunike as a consultant to the Kelvin Kaindu led technical bench. 

The Bankers confirmed Amunike and his assistant Emeka Amadi’s appointment as a consultant last week. 

The duo were unveiled at a colourful event  held at ZANACO Bank headquarters this morning. 

The 51 year old has promised to work hard and to help Zanaco turn their fortunes around. 

The former Sporting Lisbon player has also revealed that he will work hand in hand with young players identifying areas where they need help to improve and become better players.

“What’s important is knowing what to do at a particular time. Yes I have not been at club level all the time but you have to adapt and bring the best out of the situation,” Amunike said.

“Not only in Zambia, everywhere in football, they need results. If the team is performing well it boosts morale. My responsibility as someone who has played the game is to look at young players and see the areas where we can make them better players and also in line with winning our next game and topping the table but everything is a process.”

“We all want to leave a good legacy in whatever we doing. I have always tried my best. I cannot predict but I can promise you that when you talk about discipline, hard work, commitment and having the desire and the  will to achieve, you will get from me,” he added.

Meanwhile Zanaco Chairman David Musunga is confident Amunike will bring a positive change to Zanaco especially concerning the tactical approach to games. 

The Nigerian legend will also be tasked with training and mentoring coaches working at all levels of Zanaco football club.

“The team consultant means someone who provides professional advise to an organization, and that’s what he is here today. And apart from that we want to train and give our coaching staff and players an opportunity to grow. His CV speaks volumes,” Musunga said.

“For us it’s an exciting moment. We are rebuilding the team and we thought it wise to bring in someone with that experience, and has played football at the highest level. Apart from producing results but also training and improving our coaching staff.

He has a rich history, we have identified our short comings therefore with him coming as a consultant he will help our coaching team, our players in terms of the technical approach to the game.”

“He will be providing, consultant services to the coaching staff and we want to use his presence here to mentor and train our coaches so that they can develop and grow,” he added. 

During his playing days the Nigerian ex-international footballer and UEFA licensed Coach played international football in Europe where he featured for the likes of Sporting Lisbon in Portugal and Barcelona in Spain.

With a coaching career spanning eighteen years, Mr. Amuneke was Head coach of the Nigeria U-17 National Team which won the FIFA U-17 Male World Cup in 2013 in the United Arab Emirate and in 2015 in Chile. He coached various National Clubs in Spain, Nigeria, Sudan, and Egypt. 

Amunike was Head Coach of Tanzania Senior National Team that qualified to the Africa Nations Cup in 2019 after 39 years and Assistant Coach of the Super Eagles – Nigeria National Football Team in 2016.

He was nominated as African Coach of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) in 2015.
