Zambia’s Under 20 Defeat South Africa In Friendly

The Zambia Under-20 gave the fans a taste of what to expect when the Total Africa Cup of Nations commences in 14 days time in Lusaka when they beat South Africa 2-1 in an entertaining friendly match.

Fans trooped enmasse to Nkoloma Stadium with Sports Minister Moses Mawere and FAZ president Andrew Kamanga leading the chants from the stands. The hosts befittingly went ahead when Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu headed Zambia ahead in the 31st minute.

The junior Chipolopolo had been knocking for a long time and deservedly went to the break leading 1-0.

On resumption the South Africans upped their game and put Zambia to the sword but it was the hosts that doubled their advantage in the 65th minute when Edward Chilufya somehow found the back of the net with the suspicious ‘hand of God’ touch to send the fans agog.

However the South Africans pulled one back from the spot when Liam Jordan slotted home in the 75th minute.

The two sides are in different groups and will carry the Southern African flag at the eight team tournament.

Zambia is in Group A alongside Guinea, Egypt and Mali while South Africa will be in Group B with Senegal, Cameroun and Sudan.

Group A will be based in Lusaka and will play their games at Heroes Stadium while Group B will be in Ndola with matches at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

Top four teams at the tournament will qualify to the FIFA World Cup to be hosted by South Korea.

Tickets for the tournament will go on sale this week in selected outlets with prices as low as K10.

Selling points will be by Comp-ticket at Shoprite outlets and Post offices across the country.
