Zambia’s total public debt stands at US$ 14.56 billion

Zambia’s total public debt currently stands at approximately US$ 14.56 billion representing 53.1 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) against a threshold of 56 percent..

Of this amount external debt stood at US$ 9.37 billion while domestic debt amounted to US$ 5.87 billion as at the end of June this year.

Ministry of Finance Head of Public Relations Chileshe Kandeta says arrears stood at US$1.39 billion as at the end of the same month.

In a statement obtained by Q-News Mr. Kandeta notes that the total public debt and arrears is therefore US$ 15.95 billion.

Mr. Kandeta states that nominal GDP in 2018 is projected at US$ 27.4 billion.
