Zambia’s Rio Olympics in setback

Zambia’s participation at the 2016 Rio Olympics has suffered a setback after the Judo and boxing teams failed to travel to the Olympics this morning due to lack of visas.

The Zambian team was this morning turned away at the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport by officials from South African Airways for failing to produce visas.for Brazil.

This sent the team into panic mode as boarding time slowly approached with no indication that officers from the National Olympic Committee will provide the visas.

National Olympic Committee President Mirriam Moyo who confirmed the development says an officer at the National Olympic Committee forgot to give the Athletes accreditation cards which will serves as visas.

She says the cards were forgotten at the office and assured the nation that the team will now travel on Wednesday a day before the official opening.

Ms Moyo has however assured the nation that the delay will not affect Zambia’s participation at the games.
