Information and Media Minister CHUSHI KASANDA says the hosting of the African Union mid-year summit in Zambia underscores the country’s credentials as a champion of peace and unity on the continent.

Ms. KASANDA says Zambia stands to benefit immensely from the hosting of the AU summit and has called on all stakeholders in various sectors to prepare themselves for the important event.

She says the AU mid-year coordination meeting is also an opportunity to showcase Zambia as a prime investment and tourism destination.

Ms. KASANDA who is also Chief Government Spokesperson said this today during a media workshop on the coverage of the 4th African Union Mid-year coordination meeting in Lusaka.

The Minister further said government has intensified preparations to host the Summit which will be attended by 13 Heads of State and Government from across the continent.

And Information Permanent Secretary KENNEDY KALUNGA said the media in the country is expected to play an important role in hosting the AU summit next week.

Mr. KALUNGA said various media facilities have been put in place so that the media is able to effectively execute its mandate during the summit.

The AU summit will be held under the theme, strengthening resilience in nutrition and food security on the African Continent: Strengthening Agro food systems, health and social protection systems for the acceleration of human, Social and economic capital development.
