“Zambian Students Rally Behind President Hichilema”

… Not only to celebrate unity, support, and vision for Zambia’s Future but also to express some concerns

Lusaka, Zambia24 (29-03-2024) – Over two thousand students from various higher learning institutions and universities gathered unexpectedly at President Hakainde Hichilema’s Community House to congratulate him on recent milestones achieved in debt restructuring and the reopening of Mopani mines.

Representing institutions such as the University of Zambia, Copperbelt University, NIPA, HONE, NRDC, and others, the students’ show of support deeply touched President Hichilema, who pledged continued dedication to improving the welfare of Zambian youth.

In his response, the President highlighted the tangible benefits of these achievements, including expanded access to loans and bursaries, and emphasized the importance of making informed voting decisions to secure the nation’s future.

Before the President’s address, Michelo Chizombe, Chairperson of the National Council of Student Unions (NAACOSU), expressed gratitude for debt relief measures, foreseeing further improvements in the education sector.

Student union representatives, including Joseph Musonda of UNZASU and Vincent Sakala of NIPASU, commended increased government allocations to higher education.

Key government figures, such as Mr. Levy Ngoma, the President’s Political Advisor, and Mr. Fumba Chama, Permanent Secretary for Youth and Art, reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing student challenges.

The event concluded with a sense of optimism, demonstrating the power of youth and leadership collaboration to pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
