Zambian MPs Woo Indian Tourists

New Delhi: GOVERNMENT Parliamentary Chief Whip STEVEN CHUNGU has called for sustained effort to boost Zambia’s tourism.
And United Party for National Development – UPND LUFWANYAMA Member of Parliament LEONARD FUNGULWE says Zambia has a competitive advantage because it is rich in nature tourism.
This came to light when the law makers visited the TAJ MAHAL in AGRA, India, where CHILANGA Member of Parliament Parliament MARIA LANGA called on Indian tourists to think of visiting Zambia.
The three legislators are part of a delegation led by Speaker of the National Assembly PATRICK MATIBINI who held meetings with the Vice President of India VENKAIAH NAIDU and Speaker of the LOK SABHA (Lower House) SUMITRA MAHAJAN in New Delhi, accompanied by Zambia’s High Commissioner to India JUDITH KAPIJIMPANGA.
In an interview with India’s Parliament Television, Speaker of the National Assembly PATRICK MATIBINI says the decision by the President of India, SHRI RAM NATH KOVIND, to visit one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the VICTORIA Falls, in Livingstone during his three day State Visit to Zambia early this year, should encourage more Indian tourists to visit Zambia.
Justice MATIBINI says the VICTORIA Falls allows tourists to carry out bungee jumping while others dive on the natural swimming pool fondly known as the DEVIL’S Pool.
He says Zambia has key assets such as pristine national parks and game management areas, which are home to a great diversity of wildlife and flora and fauna.
Dr. MATIBINI has noted that Zambia is a birthplace of the legendary walking safari, untamed, and has an adventure that is a perfect match for its wonders.
According to recent statistics revealed by India’s Union Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) ALPHONS KANNANTHANAM, eighty-two million people are currently employed in the tourism sector in his Country and India is expected to be generating FIFTY Billion US Dollars in 5 years.
