ZAMBIA,ANGOLA,DRC HANDOVER CONCESSION OF LOBITO CORRIDOR

Zambia, Angola and the DRC have handed over the concession to a consortium of three companies to operate, manage and maintain the Lobito Corridor for a period of 30 years.

And President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has called for the quick implementation of the project so that the intended beneficiaries can begin to realize benefits.

President HICHILEMA says there is also need for the three countries to rationalize laws and policies surrounding the Lobito Corridor such as border areas operations.

Mr. HICHILEMA has assured Angola and the DRC of his government’s commitment to the project.

He says the Lobito Corridor is the nerve centre of economic development for the three countries.

The head of state has also called on the involvement of the local people in the three countries so that they feel part of the project.

And the DRC has reiterated its commitment to rehabilitate the 400 kilometers railway line from Kolwezi to Katanga to enhance the effectiveness of the Lobito Corridor.

DRC President FELIX TSHISEKEDI says the presence of strategic minerals puts the country at the centre of trade and investments.

Meanwhile, Angolan President JOÀO MANUEL LOURENÇO has described the Lobito Corridor as a game changer for the three countries which will create a lot of jobs for young people and many business opportunities for small and medium scale enterprises.
