ZAMBIA OUT OF 2019 AFCON

Zambia has failed to qualify to the 2019 Cameroon AfCON after suffering a 1-nil defeat away to Mozambique in the Group K match played in Maputo.
This is the second time in a roll that Chipolopolo have failed to qualify for the continental show after failing to qualify for the 2017 edition.
The loss means Sven Vandenbroek’s side remain stuck at the bottom of Group K on four points, ending any hopes of making it to Cameroon.

Reginald Fe’s all-important goal in the 63rd minute was enough to end Zambia’s hopes.
Mozambique now move to seven points, one behind leaders Guinea Bissau and Namibia who have eight points apiece.
Zambia’s last match in the qualifiers will be a formality against Namibia in March next year.

And President Edgar Lungu has described Zambia’s loss to Mozambique as disheartening.
The President Lungu says he was hoping that the team would qualify to the 2019 Cameroon AfCON .
The Head of state has urged the team and the football Asssociation of Zambia -FAZ – to get back to the drawing board.
Attention now shifts to the Shepolopolo of Zambia who take on Equatorial Guinea at 20:30 hours tonight.
This will be in their opening Group B match of the 2018 African Womens’ Cup of Nations which kicked off in Ghana yesterday.
