The Zambia Consumer Association-ZACA- has warned that Zambia is likely to face a disruption in the supply chain of goods as a result of the unrest and looting of some shops and warehouses in some parts of South Africa.

In an interview with Phoenix News, ZACA Executive Secretary, Juba Sakala explains that this is because most chain stores in Zambia are South African owned and rely on that country for most goods.

Mr Sakala adds that the disruption in the supply chain will be a result of most South African shops prioritizing to restock and working on restructuring their shops which were looted unlike exporting.

He has since called on local manufacturers to take this opportunity and put in place measures that will mitigate the likelihood of this disruption by producing more to meet consumer demand.

In a related development, the Ndola District Chamber of Commerce and Industry says it is monitoring with concern events in South Africa that have affected trade.

Chamber president Paul Chisunka tells Phoenix News that the happenings will have an impact on cross-border traders who frequent that country and the chamber members who are in transport and logistics.
