ZAMBIA, DRC DEALS RECEIVE KUDOS

An Economist has applauded the recently signed agreement between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- that aims at boosting copper production through value addition.

SHABDIN MWEEMBA who is a Choma based economist says, the move by the Zambia and Congolese governments is welcome as it will create massive economic opportunities.

Mr. MWEEMBA who was speaking to ZNBC News in a Telephone interview said the agreement will create jobs and wealth to the two countries.

He has further called on investors to take advantage of this move and set up factories.

Zambia and the DRC last week signed cooperating agreements to embark on an electric car battery value chain.

The agreement which includes clean energy sector will explore minerals rich in both countries which are key raw materials in manufacturing of electric car batteries.

The two countries also resolved to set up a Zambia – DRC- Executive Battery Council to oversee the implementation of the cooperating agreement for the electric car battery value chain.

The Executive Council will be led by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and his DRC- counterpart FELIX TSHISEKEDI.
