YOUTH EMPLOYMENT CRITICAL-MUTATI

 

Government says youth employment is critical to the Country’s economic transformation agenda.

Science and Technology Minister, Felix Mutati says youths need to be empowered with practical skills that enable them access employment opportunities.

Mr. Mutati says the youths need to be empowered with practical skills that address industry challenges and at the same time enable them to participate in the job market.

He spoke in Lusaka today at the signing ceremony between the Government of Zambia, the Government of Japan and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization UNIDO, for the project for promoting youth employment through construction equipment operating skills training.

And speaking at the same event, Japanese Ambassador to Zambia, Mizuuchi Ryuta disclosed that the four Million Dollar skills development project will run for a period of five years from 2021 to 2025 at Kitwe Vocational Training Centre.

He said the project aims at training over 5-hundred youths and is being funded by the Japanese Government’s multilateral financing scheme.

Meanwhile, UNIDO Representative and Head of The Regional Office Khaled El Mekwad said UNIDO in collaboration with the Government of Zambia has identified the current skills gap in the country’s construction and mining industries.
