Women’s Super League: ZESCO edge Arrows as Buffaloes massacre ZISD

By Moses Mwanza | August 18, 2021

FAZ Women’s Super League log leaders ZESCO Ndola Girls moved up to 6 points clear at the summit of the table after they edged Red Arrows 1-0 in an interesting rescheduled Match Week 10 encounter played this afternoon at the Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola.

There were so many bragging rights at stake in this fourth meeting between ZESCO and Arrows with either side winning one and the other match ending in a draw since 2015.

Zegalicious game-changer Happy Pinto scored the only goal of the match just at the stroke of half time and that was enough for the Coach William Zulu drilled lasses who have now taken their total tally of points to 42 from 18 games played while Arrows remain stuck on 10th position having played fewer games and they welcome Nkana Queens this weekend in a catch-up rescheduled match week 7 at Nkoloma Stadium.

Meanwhile, in an early kick-off match played in the morning at the Green Square Ground in Arakan Barracks Unstoppable Green Buffaloes silenced Zambian Institute for Sustainable Development (ZISD) Women Football Club 4-1 in another Rescheduled Match Week 10 encounter.

Buffaloes coach Charles Haalubono made two changes to his starting lineup that edged Lusaka Dynamos the last weekend, Bupe Mwanza replaced Aisha Mbwana Kwaya in goal while Shelly Masumo took up the place for the suspended captain of the side Joana Benaya who was red-carded against the Elite Ladies.

Buffaloes were firm favorites to win this match and they did just that thanks to a goal each from Ethel Chama, Lubasi Pumulo, Maylan Mulenga and Anita Mulenga and that was enough for them to win the game 4-1 whereas Susan Evarine Katongo scored the consolation goal for ZISD just before the half time break.

Green Buffaloes’ next assignment is away in Ndola this weekend against Indeni Roses in another catch-up rescheduled match week 7 encounter which may not take place as they are preparing to leave for South Africa to represent Zambia at the Inaugural COSAFA Women’s Champions League tournament.
