Women told to empower each other

By Blessings Chibuye

Government has called on women to empower each other with necessary tools for development by breaking the narrative that they can not work and support each other.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Permanent Secretary ETAMBUYU GUNDERSEN says when women make each other feel safe, especially in work environments they are more productive.

Ms. GUNDERSEN was speaking during the Women in Foreign Policy Workshop, an initiative of the ministry of Foreign Affairs with support of the United Nation Resident Coordinator office in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, UN Resident Coordinator, BEATRICE MUTALI said the workshop signals an important step towards Zambia’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Ms. MUTALI said increased participation of women in foreign policy and international cooperation can lead to new and innovative patterns with regards to peace and security of nations.

And UN Women Country Representative of Burundi CLARA ANYANGWE called for strengthened policies to help close the gender gap and increase women participation around the globe.
