WHO salutes Lungu’s Health Promotion

The World Health Organization -WHO’s – African Region is happy to work with President Edgar Lungu because of his commitment towards health promotion and diseases prevention in Zambia.WHO African Region Matshidiso Moeti says WHO is gratified to work with President Lungu to improve health capacities, as doing so will significantly reduce the disease burden in Zambia and beyond.Dr Moeti was speaking today on the side-line of the 69th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, which opened yesterday in Brazzaville.She said political will exhibited by the Zambia leader is an example to the African region.Dr Moeti said WHO is extremely happy with the strong approach Zambia is taking towards prevention of diseases and health promotion; specifically, the establishment of the Zambia National Health Public Health Institute.Meanwhile, the 47 Member States of the WHO African Region has nominated Dr Moeti to serve a second five-year term as Regional Director for Africa.The nomination took place today during the 69th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa, which is the governing mechanism involving health ministers from all Member States.Dr Moeti’s candidacy was endorsed by the African Union Executive Council earlier this year.Her nomination will be ratified by the 146th WHO Executive Board at its January 2020 session.If ratified, her second term will begin 1 March 2020.
