WE WANT CHANDA KABWE-PAC

The Public Accounts Committee -PAC- has insisted that former Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- National Coordinator CHANDA KABWE must appear before it to answer audit queries in the 2021 Auditor General’s Report.

PAC Chairperson WARREN MWAMBAZI has warned that certain provisions of the law will be invoked should Mr. KABWE continue to be elusive.

This follows the non-availability of Mr. .KABWE before the committee despite being summoned.

Mr. MWAMBAZI was speaking during today’s sitting in Lusaka.

Meanwhile, PAC Vice Chairperson JACQUELINE SABAO expressed concern that DMMU delegates gave unsubstantiated answers to the queries due to the absence of Mr. KABWE.

Ms. SABAO said PAC would not get tangible answers on the queries unless Mr. KABWE is available.

And reacting to the revelations, Auditor General DICK SICHEMBE noted that the DMMU failed to provide concrete answers on various queries before the compilation of the 2021 Auditor General’s Report.

Dr. SICHEMBE submitted before the Committee that the answers that the DMMU officials churned out are inconsistent with the replies before the publication of the 2021 Auditor General’s Report.

But DMMU Senior Procurement Officer INNOCENT DIZOMBA insisted that procurement procedures were followed in all the transactions made by the unit during the year under review.
